Black Myth Wukong: From Playing to a Fan Website Project

The world of video games is not only entertainment, but often also an endless source of inspiration. When we come across a title that captivates us completely, playing it is only the start of the adventure. That’s exactly the case with Black Myth Wukong – an action RPG. What happens if our engagement goes beyond simply finishing the story? What if we want to share our passion with others and create something lasting?

This article is for those who feel that their adventure with Black Myth Wukong doesn’t have to end at the computer screen. I’ll show how getting deeply immersed in the game world can become the spark for creating your own fan-made website project – a knowledge hub, a place for discussion, and a tribute to this incredible production.

Origins of Fascination: Diving Into the World of Wukong

The first trailers for Black Myth Wukong electrified the gaming community. Incredible graphics, dynamic combat, and intriguing references to classic Chinese mythology – especially Journey to the West and the Monkey King – made millions of people eagerly await the release. Just playing the game is a promise of unforgettable experiences.

With every gameplay snippet watched and every story detail discovered, my admiration for the creators kept growing. I started noticing the nuances of the combat system, appreciating the complexity of the world presented, and diving deeper into the mythology that forms the foundation of the game.

I didn’t immediately fall in love with Wukong. I approached the game three times. During the first two attempts, it felt extremely difficult, and I got stuck for longer on some boss. It clicked only on the third attempt: I started reading item descriptions carefully, using every available mechanic, and that was the key to success :).

From Player to Creator: An Idea for a Fan Website

When your passion reaches its peak, the need to create something of your own often comes along. A fan website dedicated to Black Myth Wukong is a perfect way to express that excitement. But what could such a site include?

  • Guides and Walkthroughs: Detailed boss descriptions, combat strategies, hidden secrets, and equipment tips.
  • Lore and Mythology: Expanding the world story, characters, and references to Chinese mythology. Explaining deeper meanings.
  • Galleries: Screenshots, fan art, and concept graphics.

Building a site like this is not only a technical challenge, but also a creative one. It lets you deepen your knowledge of the game, develop analytical and organizational skills, and above all – share your love for Black Myth Wukong with others. A big challenge is gathering data about the game, characters, items, and so on when the developers don’t provide an API.

Project Implementation: First Steps

The idea of building a website seemed complicated. No API, no game data,  however, thanks to today’s tools, this is more achievable than ever. I decided to quickly learn how to scrape data from the web. Searching the internet and saving data manually felt like a bad idea and a waste of time.

Here are the basic steps I took:

  1. Structure Planning: For this, I used the great Relume tool.
  2. Technology: No changes here – my favorite Astro, React, and TypeScript
  3. Data Retrieval: For this, I wrote a data scraper that saved everything in the right structure – one that made it possible to easily read and display it on the site
  4. SEO Optimization: Even at the stage of creating the content and structure, I was thinking about how the site would be visible in search engines. I used the right headings, meta descriptions, and keywords.
  5. Project Launch: The idea came to mind on Thursday evening, and by Saturday evening the project was ready to go live in production

SEO and Visibility: Reaching Wukong Fans

Creating a great website is one thing, but making sure others find it is another. Search engine optimization (SEO) is key. Here are a few basic rules that helped my site gain visibility online:

  • Keywords: I identified what Black Myth Wukong players are looking for (for example, “Black Myth Wukong guide”, “Wukong lore”).
  • Page Titles and Headings: I used clear, descriptive page titles and headings (H1, H2, H3) that include keywords.
  • Meta Descriptions: I added compelling meta descriptions that encourage users to click the site from search results.
  • Internal Linking: I connected related content on my site to make navigation easier and strengthen the site structure.
  • Page Speed: I made sure the site loads fast thanks to Astro and Netlify.
  • Internationalization: I added support for Polish and Polish players, as well as support for the Chinese language. Work is still ongoing because it’s not an easy and inexpensive process (translation using the Deepl API).

SEO is a long-term process, but every small step helps increase the visibility of this project.

Summary

Black Myth Wukong is not just a game – it’s a journey through an amazing adventure and inspiration to create this project. From playing it, to diving deeply into its world, and finally creating my own fan-made website project. At the time of writing this post, I haven’t finished the game yet. I like getting to know the game and doing everything I can in it. The game is long and quite demanding. I’m sure that after I finish it, my opinion about the game will still remain unchanged.
